USUK Chapter Three: Homesick

Kat, Alfred and Arthur made there way to the courtyard. They were all chatting about doctor who and various video games when Alfred heard something.

“Dude what’s that?”

“Alfred are you hearing things?” Kat remarked

“No I hear it too” Arthur spoke softly

In the distance was the sound of someone crying, and an oddly familiar voice

“Come on yo it’s coming from behind the cafeteria!” Alfred rushed to the rescue as they all headed behind the cafeteria.

There lay a scrawny boy about their age with light blonde wavy hair and a stuffed polar bear in his arms.

“Wow Matt!” Alfred recognized the boy immediately and ran to his side. Kat quickly joined Alfred. “Mathew what happened?” Kat asked him. Matthew had dirt all over his face and scrapes all over his legs. “I-I-I” He sniffled through his tears. Meanwhile Arthur had already met the cause of the problem. Jake, Sam’s boyfriend had come around the corner. Alfred quickly turned around to see Jake, and immediately scowled. “What did you do to Mathew you ass!” he yelled as he made his way over to stand next to Arthur. “Oh look the paramedics have arrived.” Jake smirked. He was just as tall as Alfred, which was pretty impressive, with dark brown hair that was covered by an old baseball hat. “Answer my question,” growled Alfred. There was something about Alfred’s words that made Arthur feel a bit braver. “We’ll tell the principle” spoke Arthur softly “What was that?” Jake leaned down into Arthurs face “ WE WILL TELL THE PRINCIPLE” Arthur's words were interrupted by an immediate blow to the stomach. Within seconds he was on the ground.

Alfred took immediate action punching Jake in the left shoulder pushing him back a bit. Luckily for Arthur Kat was already on the ground next Arthur “Come on Arthur don’t give up that easy!” she pulled him off of the ground “t-thanks Kat…” Arthur spoke quietly “Thank me later we need to help Alfie” She came to stand by Alfred and soon the three of them formed battle team (insert cool name here). Jake took a small step back. He was clearly out numbered and out matched, but he had a nasty plan. Jake charged immediately to Arthur throwing him hard onto the ground, but his plan wasn’t thought through as well as he thought. This time Alfred was the one rushing to his side as Kat grabbed the back of Jakes shirt. His was so thrown off balance from the charge at Arthur so badly that he toppled back wards allowing Kat to pin him to the ground using her foot. Unfortunately for Jake Kat had worn heels that day. “ Another slip up Jake and I’m going straight to the principle,” She hissed at him slowly lifting her foot off his chest. “You guys are crazy!” he yelled as he scampered off like a baby rabbit that had just gotten its leg bitten off by a fox.

Kat immediately ran back to Arthur who had a large cut across the side of his arm. “Dude! Arthur wake up! ARTHUR!!!” Alfred yelled trying to wake him. “Oh dear god…” Kat knelt beside him and placed her hand on Arthur’s forehead. He was ice cold. “Alfred stay here and watch over Arthur I’m getting a nurse!” Kat dashed to the nurse’s office as fast as she could. Mathew was already at the nurse’s office, courtesy of Kat, Leaving Arthur and Alfred all alone. “Arthur come on you’ve gotta wake up bro…” Alfred spoke softly to him avoiding tears with all his might. What was it about Arthur that made him feel so odd? Was it his eyes? The way he spoke? What was Alfred thinking, he wasn’t gay… Was he?

Alfred sat there for a while questioning his sexuality. So many thoughts ran through Alfred’s mind. Every first date, every brake up, it all seemed so distant. He had only dated three girls, and he hadn’t asked out a single one of them. They had all chased him down to the point where he thought he liked them. It seemed so odd to him now, but so perfectly normal back then.  Maybe it was just Kat getting into his head, she was always talking about how adorable gay guys are. Even though she was a lesbian… But that was one of the reasons Alfred liked her so much. They could do whatever and she wouldn’t even look at him twice. It was nice having a friend like that.

Alfred had become so lost in thought he hadn’t even noticed Kat had returned with a nurse. “Alfie come on Arthur has to go home now…” Kat softly shook Alfred’s shoulder “Right sorry...” Alfred slowly let go of Arthur and stood up. “Come on let’s go eat.” Kat said quietly.

Alfred and Kat walked back to where they had been sitting, Arthur’s stuff was already gone. They sat down quietly both not saying a single word. Kat and Alfred both felt like it was there fault that Arthur had gotten hurt so badly, and on his first day too. What if he parents didn’t want him going here anymore? What if they all got expelled for getting in a fight? Alfred for once was scared. So scared he couldn’t even enjoy his hamburger… these were desperate times. “Alfred…?” Kat spoke quietly

“Yeah?”

“Do you think Arthur’s gay…?”

This question hit Alfred like a bullet train. He hadn’t even considered if Arthur was gay. He had gotten extremely awkward when Alfred had mentioned girls… and he hadn’t even gotten a considerable look at Kat, which was pretty hard considering her crazy outfit choices, heels with jeans and a doctor who t-shirt.

“I don’t know.” Alfred replied softly

“Are… you?”
